Anteil Open Source CRM System Review

Review by Pricilla Chambers on May 26, 2008.

Anteil Independent CRM Review

Headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA, Anteil began as a business relationship between VA Linux Systems and its consultants. From an initial meeting in October 1999, VA Linux and Jim Capp developed the vision for a comprehensive Customer Relationship Management application suite which would include sales management, customer analytics, opportunity management and sales forecasting. Mr. Capp launched the company, Anteil, and VA Linux still remains a strategic partner and customer.

Anteil has adapted the CRM software solution for several vertical markets and industries:

  • Construction (and job costing environments)
  • Education
  • Fashion industry
  • Financial services, including insurance services and wealth management
  • Government and public sector
  • Manufacturing (discrete manufacturing)
  • Medical and healthcare
  • Not for profits, membership organizations and associations
  • Publishing and media
  • Real estate and property management

Anteil was designed to assist customers to better identify, attract, retain, service and support their customers. The main CRM software application features include:

  • Account entity objects for account management
  • Contact manager for contact management
  • Activity manager for activity and task management
  • Opportunity manager
  • Campaign manager
  • Event manager
  • Consolidated marketing materials
  • Corporate communications
  • Calendars for activity management
  • Sales forecasting
  • Advanced security

The CRM open-source software foundation is a collection of database tables architected to manage relationship objects and data. The object-oriented software development methodology applied to table design has achieved in a relatively small set of common and reusable objects such as entities, people, opportunities and events. The downloaded solution is delivered with reasonable code documentation and a tutorial.

Developed on a native thin client architecture, this CRM open-source software system is available at no up front cost and is an easy way to implement a basic CRM business software system quickly. The product architecture is logically constructed with a presentation layer, business layer and modular database interface layer. The presentation layer is XHTML/HTML/XML and uses JavaScript for form validation, navigation and agnostic browser support. The business logic was developed primarily in PHP. A Common Gateway Interface (CGI) and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are available for C/C++, PHP and the UNIX programming environments. The server platform uses the traditional Linux operating system and Apache Web Server.

At the data layer, Anteil supports MySQL and PostgreSQL. The object oriented and relational structure is insulated from the database storage through an abstraction layer. This seperatoin allows the flexibility to use multiple relational database management systems (RDBMS) with a common code set. The abstraction layer also delivers near-instantaneous transaction level data replication among multiple servers distributed in a wide area network (WAN) or in a local distributed database cluster.

The bottom line CRM software solution strengths include its overall simplicity, ease of use, intuitive navigation, logical code construction and relative straight-forwardness in customizing or adapting the CRM system for individual needs.
